Hi, I have sooo busy and I know this has gone a little long with no new posts. I am hard at work getting my pasta company off the ground, planting gardens, and gearing up for summer. I have a new site, www.feed-your-karma.com, that will talk all about my pasta and have some links to my yoga teaching schedule. I will be at the Grand Ledge Farmer’s market this Saturday, May 22, selling pasta and talking with market browsers for our Opening Day! Their site is a little old, so the hours of the market are 9am-1pm. It is on the corner of Bridge Street and Jefferson Street in downtown Grand Ledge, which also has a few beautiful free parks and is home to the Ledges, our favorite home rock climbing crag! Look at the map here.

Please stop by and see me at one of these new venues- see you soon!

Old Town Market Opens Sunday 5/2!! April 30, 2010

Hey everyone, grab those cloth grocery bags and head over to the first Old Town Farmer’s Market of the season! It coincides with the Gallery Walk each month, so you can spend all afternoon strolling along and enjoying delicious food, drink, and culture! (look at a map of this place here.)

Among some of the market specialties will be FRESH FISH from our own Michigan Lakes, FREE RANGE EGGS and CHICKEN from healthy birds that roam around in the sunshine, HAND-MADE PASTA from my new pasta company Feed Your Karma, and soaps and lotions made from GOAT”S MILK; You don’t want to miss it!

My favorite place to get a refreshing drink in OT is at Pablo’s Panaderia, where they make the best LEMONADE you can get without squeezing it yourself and then check out the cool galleries like By The Riverside and Walking Horse and Absolute Gallery.

This market is small but mighty, and we can support it by stopping by to visit with farmers, buy some fresh local food, and hang out in Old Town. I hope I see you there- I’ll be hanging out at Full Circle Ranch’s booth!

Reach Out to REACH April 28, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — annankaschner @ 10:57 pm

REACH is an art studio in my neighborhood- you may have heard of them. They do tons of art-related programs for kids and teens, and they are located in a very specific part of town that has little to offer young people in terms of positive, creative outlets. Situated on the nearly-empty block of South Washington Ave near Mt Hope, REACH is organized by Alice Brinkman, an artist herself and an activist in her own right.

REACH is painting the sign for our Moore’s PArk/St. Casmir community garden, in their Teen Studio program. I think it’s so cool that we can involve them, and that local teens will be in charge of the entire creative process. They have outgrown their little space on Washington, and are hopefully moving into the old Moore’s Park school which has been vacant for several years, and is just a few blocks from my house.

You can support REACH by visiting their book fair at Barne’s and Noble in East Lansing this weekend. Each purchase you make will donate a percentage to REACH, and since they are entirely not-for-profit and mainly run on donations and volunteers, it would be very cool for us as a community to support the awesome work they do. There will be free collage-making from 2-4pm, so stop in , buy a book or two, and help REACH!

Busy, Busy April 20, 2010

With the Spring happening, and warmer weather right around the corner, many of us begin to feel the shift in energy from sluggish winter into active summer. There are gardens to plant, markets to visit, classes to attend, and sometimes it feels like there just isn’t enough time on one day to get everything organized, much less accomplished!! I have decide to give a run-down of important happenings around Lansing that I am involved with and hope you can be, too.

Moore’s Park Neighborhood Gets a Garden!! April 15, 2010

Calling all gardeners, veggie-eaters, flower-smellers, and sunshine-lovers!! My area of Lansing is near Moore’s Park, which is on the Grand River and a trailhead for a portion of the Riverwalk. It encompasses everything east of MLK from the river to one block north of Barnes (our street) to Washington. See a map of this area

Recently the large church in our area, St. Casmir, donated a large unused parking area to our community for a garden space- How Cool!! Things are moving swiftly to get the site from its previous state of gravel and cement transformed into soft, fertile soil to plant into. We have so much space that residents can have 20 x 20 ft plots, including extra space for ‘perennial plots’ of things like raspberries, strawberries, and asparagus that would grow year after year.

The best part is that you don’t have to be a Moore’s Park resident to get a plot! ANY person or family interested can contact Paul Kolar by email at paulkolar@yahoo.com or call at 517-214-3931 to claim a space. This is a great opportunity to get to know your neighbors, make some new friends, and enjoy gardening. An official work day is scheduled for May 1 and 2.

See you in the dirt!

Feed Your Karma Pasta on the Way!! April 11, 2010

It is my delight to announce the tentative birth of my very own pasta company. My company’s mission will be to provide the highest-quality, best-tasting pasta made from scratch and by hand (MY hands, actually!). I will use Michigan based companies for my flour suppliers,  use only eggs from hens that are happy and outside in the sun and dirt, sell the pasta at small farmer’s markets in Lansing, and by the way, it will also be Gluten Free!!

To start I will offer spaghetti, fettuccine, lasagna noodles, and large pasta sheets for you to use at home on your own delicacies!

If you would like to pre-order pasta, please contact me.
